Black Lives Matter Resources

The fight against racism is not a trend.

It must continue, and that means all of us must continue to act.

Turtle Bay will be continuing to act to support the fight against racism. We are working with our teams exploring internal initiatives and looking into ways in which we can better support local black communities too.

How you can help

Many of you may be wondering what you can do as well. One of the first things you can do is learn more about black oppression, so we’ve put together some useful resources. You can also listen to black voices and share their messages.

You don’t have to be a great reader to learn more – here are some Netflix shows that you could start with. Many thanks to @unityceleste on Instagram for sharing these.

  • Explained - Season 1 Episode 1 – The Racial Wealth Gap - how centuries of inequality have come together to create a racial wealth gap
  • Time: The Kalief Browder Storythe story of a teenager wrongfully jailed for over 1,000 days
  • When They See Usthe story of 5 boys wrongfully convicted of a crime they did not commit
  • 13thdocumentary analysing the criminalisation of African Americans & the US prison boom
  • Who killed Malcom X? - An insight into Malcom X, his beliefs & his mysterious death
Ted Talks

These 20 minute informative talks are another good way to learn – there are many available on the Ted platform but here are a few insightful to begin with:

The following books are key to understanding on-going racism in our society. There is high demand for some of these books at the moment – but you could always borrow them from a library or a friend.

  • Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race - Reni Eddo-Lodge
  • Me and White Supremacy - Layla F Saad
  • Queenie - Candice Carty-Williams
  • Brit(ish) - Afua Hirsch
  • How To Be An Anti-Racist - Ibram X. Kendi
  • Don't Touch My Hair - Emma Dabiri

Not everyone can afford to donate, and that’s OK. If you would like to support, there are a number of UK charities you can help.

Is there a local community project near you that you could help? All actions make a difference, and there are lots of charities and projects that aim to improve education and opportunities for BAME communities.

Further resources

There are lots of Instagram accounts that will help you to stay up to date with the situation in the UK and America and are sharing ways you can support.

This doc also has a comprehensive list of petitions, charities and resources that are all very useful.

These lists are just a start and we hope over time we will be able to share more resources and information with you. If you feel there is something important that we are missing from these lists then please do get in touch.
