Well, it's cold out there!
Between the Christmas hangovers and freezing weather, it’s easy to find yourself feeling a tad under the weather.
We might not be total experts in this field, so we’ve listened to lots of local advice and pulled together a few tips and remedies used in the Caribbean, to help you feel better!
Hot water, honey, and lime works wonders for sore throats!
- You can boil everything together, don't forget it must be drunk hot! Grab a teaspoon and sip/spoon-feed yourself so you don't burn!
- Wrap yourself in the warmest clothes you have and sweat it all out
Ginger tea is the most popular remedy among the islands and it's also used as cough relief
- Not only to calm inflammation but ginger root it's also proven to be an excellent relief for when your stomach is just a bit "upsidedown..."
- It's very simple to make! All you need to do is boil 200ml of water, peel a handful of ginger root and add to the boiling water, then bring to a simmer for 5 minutes.
- You can drink this as many times as needed!
Turns out overproof rum isn’t just for parties!
- In the Caribbean, a short drink of lime juice and overproof rum is in fact believed to open up the pores and help cold sufferers to “sweat the cold out”!
- Lime juice is also an excellent source of Vitamin C, which helps your immune system if you're feeling a bit broken.
- All you need to do is pour 30ml of freshly squeezed lime juice and 60ml of overproof rum into a glass, stir, then down it!
- Some people like to add a little bit of honey, just to make it taste a little bit nicer!
Everything in moderation though… Too much overproof rum and lime isn’t going to help your recovery!
